Become a Volunteer with the College
The College is looking for volunteers to be a part of a dynamic and innovative team. We are looking for Opticians to sit on the Registration Committee and Inquiry Committee. 

Registration Committee: 

To assess an applicant’s qualifications to practice Opticianry in British Columbia in an equitable and consistent manner for all applicants. To conduct exam reviews on an as needed basis.

The committee consists of 5 members: 1 appointed board member, 1 elected board member and 3 registrants. 

Nature of Committee Work:
The Committee assesses an applicant’s qualifications against regulated criteria for registration in British Columbia, and determines if additional activities are required to meet program, exam or practice requirements, or if any terms, conditions, or limitations should be imposed on the Certificate of Registration of an applicant. The Committee also develops policies and procedures that facilitate the process of assessing qualifications in an equitable and consistent manner, balancing public interest with access to the profession.

Reporting Relationships:
Committee makes independent decisions regarding applications for registration,
and prepares regular and annual reports for the Board.

Time Commitmentment
Approximately 5 meetings per year (1 every couple of months).

Registrar and Registration Manager

Inquiry Committee: 

To review the results of investigations about Opticianry practice and the conduct of College Members, and to dispose of complaints according to the provisions of the legislation.

The committee consists of 5 members: 1 appointed board member, 1 elected board member and 3 registrants. 

Nature of Committee Work:
Review reports of investigations, relevant documentation, health records, Member’s responses, complainants’ submissions.

Decide how to dispose of the complaint and prepare reasons for decision. Deliver cautions to members where appropriate. Review cases for possible informal resolution giving direction to the College Staff as to the appropriate action.  Direct staff regarding the drafting of undertakings with Members. Approval of undertakings. The committee may decide that the matter does not warrant further action or may attempt to resolve the matter informally.

Reporting Relationships:
The Committee makes independent decisions within its mandate, and prepares regular and annual reports to the Board.

Time Commitment:
At least 4 meetings a year

Legal Support:
General legal counsel and prosecutor provide advice as needed.

08.09.2017 Nomination to the College Board of Directors - District 1 Lower Mainland The College is looking for leaders to be nominated from the Lower Mainland to the Board to help regulate the profession. The College is responsible for setting and enforcing the standards of opticianry. As a self-regulating profession, the Board of the College has the important duty of overseeing the College's regulatory activities and is accountable for how the College operates.
