COBC Board Election

COBC is looking for leaders to join the Board to help regulate the profession, and is currently seeking nominations for licensed opticians (with any designation) in the Cariboo or Vancouver Island areas. COBC is responsible for setting and enforcing the standards of opticianry, in the public’s interest. As a self-regulating profession, the Board of the COBC has the important duty of overseeing COBC’s regulatory activities and is accountable for how the COBC operates.

Professional regulation is evolving, so the COBC is seeking board members who are innovative, willing to adapt in an ever-changing environment, and deeply care about public safety. Successful board members don’t necessarily need past board experience, but have knowledge and skills in areas like leadership, strategy, decision-making, finance, and of course professional regulation. In addition, it is important that board members are professional, performance-oriented and are aware of self and others. We are especially encouraging applications from Indigenous people, members of racialized or marginalized groups, individuals identifying as LGBTQIA2S+, and individuals with a lived experience of immigrating to Canada as an optical professional.

Board members meet at least four times each year, and also participate in various committees for the COBC. By nominating yourself or your fellow optician for election, you have the opportunity to make a difference by participating in the regulation of opticianry and ensuring opticians provide safe, quality vision care for all.

Please refer to the applicable documents below. The deadline for nomination is 5:00pm PST on September 30, 2022. Nominees must submit the completed nomination form (link below) and provide profile information.
