COBC had previously announced two upcoming Board vacancies and had sought nominations from licensed Contact Lens Fitters (in any B.C. region), and from registrants in the Okanagan & Kootenays region.
Marty Semaniuk, current Contact Lens Fitter on the Board, is seeking re-election, and with no other nominations received by the deadline will be re-appointed for a second term.
As COBC did not receive nominations for the second Board position, the Board will be looking to appoint someone to fill this vacancy. Any registrant, in any B.C. region, who is interested in this appointment may apply by sending a resume and cover letter to the COBC for the Board’s review and consideration. In particular, we are encouraging applications from Indigenous registrants; members from racialized groups; individuals identifying as LGBTQIA2S+; and those with lived experience of physical, cognitive, or mental health conditions.
COBC is responsible for setting and enforcing the standards of opticianry, in the public interest. Professional regulation is evolving so the COBC is seeking Board members who are innovative, willing to adapt in an ever-changing environment, and deeply care about public safety. Past Board experience is not necessarily required, and training will be provided. Successful Board members have knowledge and skills in areas like leadership, strategy, stakeholder relations, decision-making, finance, and professional regulation. In addition, it is important that Board members are professional, performance-oriented, are self-aware, and considerate of others.
If you have any questions, or would like more information about the role, please contact the COBC office at (604) 742-6472 or lbannerman@cobc.ca.
The deadline for applications is January 7, 2022. Interested registrants may forward their application to Christopher Dodge at cdodge@cobc.ca.
